PROCLAMATION NO. 2018-12
A PROCLAMATION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS, SUPPORTING SEPTEMBER 2018 AS
SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH IN TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, suicide rates have risen over 30% in almost every state since 1999,
becoming a major public health concern; and
WHEREAS, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the US and the second
leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24; and
WHEREAS, Americans attempt suicide an estimated 1.1 million times annually,
with 575,000 being teenagers; and
WHEREAS, more young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease,
AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined;
and
WHEREAS, one American dies by suicide every 12 minutes with nearly 45,000
suicides in 2016, of which Veterans comprised 22.2 percent; and
WHEREAS, in the United States, 90 percent of those who die by suicide had a
diagnosable psychiatric disorder at the time of their death; and
WHEREAS, many people who died never received effective behavioral health
services, for reasons including the difficulty of access, the stigma of using behavioral
health treatment and the stigma associated with losing a loved one to suicide; and
WHEREAS, the more the public understands about suicide prevention, the more
likely we'll see the rate of suicide begin to decrease.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MAYOR C. NICK SANDERS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM:
SEPTEMBER 2018 AS SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Town Council of the Town of Trophy Club,
Texas, this 11th day of Sept mj r 18.
