PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MINUTES
MONDAY, JULY 24, 2023; 7:00 P.M.
The Trophy Club Parks and Recreation Board met in a Regular Session on M on d ay, J u I y 24, 2 023. The meeting was
held at Town Hall, 1 Trophy Wood Drive in the Council Chambers.

CALL TO ORDER AND ANNOUNCE A QUORUM
Chairperson Murray called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. and noted a quorum with five Board Members present.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Chairperson Murray announced that while there was one participant who submitted a Speaker Request Form, comments
regarding the installation of pickleball courts would better be held for the agenda item so that they may be addressed. No
public comments were made.
Chairperson Murray introduced Trophy Club Mayor Jennette Tiffany, who recounted the history and value of the Parks &
Recreation Board. Mayor Tiffany expressed her desire to further develop the parks and recreational programs offered in
Trophy Club, and detailed the support the Board has from the Town Council.
Chairperson Murray also introduced Interim Town Manager and Chief of Police Patrick Arata, who detailed the role of a
board member and expressed the importance of board members providing input and direction on projects and ideas
brought to them.
Chief Arata also introduced Ronnie Angel, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation.
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS
3. Receive an update regarding the development of new pickleball courts.
Chairperson Murray announced that due to the large number of attendees present that wished to speak regarding the
installation of new pickleball courts, agenda item #3 would be discussed first.
Director Angel explained that the existing plan for pickleball courts to be added to Harmony Park was no longer being
considered as the designated space was not an appropriate size for the courts, in addition to requiring the removal of
several trees. Town Staff recommended the use of the land immediately East of the Town Hall for the new courts to be
installed.
Tom Bath, 5 Crestwood Drive, Trophy Club, Texas, spoke at the board meeting and addressed his support of the
development of a quality public facility for pickleball in Trophy Clubjlocated in the proposed space to the immediate East of

the Town Hall building.
1. Receive an update regarding ongoing Parks projects.
Senior Administrative Assistant Wilson provided the Board with updates regarding ongoing Parks projects, including the
replacement of several parking lot and security lights to LED lights and the trimming of trees along Trophy Lake Drive.
2. Receive an update regarding ongoing Community Events and Recreation projects.
Senior Administrative Assistant Wilson provided the Board with updates regarding ongoing Community Events and
Recreation projects, including:
a) The POW/MIA ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Veteran's Memorial Park at Independence Park West on
Saturday, May 20. The ceremony featured words shared by local heroes and their families, as well as the unveiling
of the new POW/MIA Monument at the park. This event is expected to occur on an annual basis moving forward.
b) The Summer Celebration event. This event was held at Independence Park East on Friday, May 26. The event was
catered by In-N-Out burger, who handed out nearly 500 free burger meals. The event ended with a presentation of
the DreamWorks film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
c) Trophy Club's annual Fourth of July Celebration. This year's celebration broke several records, including 443
participants in the Patriot 5K and Fun Run, 47 entries in the Parade of Patriots, and 17 food vendors at the evening
Fireworks Celebration.
d) A Dive -In Movie and showing of Disney's The Little Mermaid. The movie will take place on Saturday, September 2
at the Community Pool and Splash Pad. Regular rules and operations of the pool will remain in place until the pool
closes at 10:00 PM.
e) Taste of Trophy Club. Rescheduled after being rained out earlier this year, this event will take place on Friday,
September 15 at Independence Park East from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The event will feature a varies of cuisines from
10 different food trucks, beer and wine sales, inflatables for children, and live music.
f) The Swim-A-Thon fundraiser by the Trophy Club Tritons Swim Team. The swim team collected pledges and worked
to raise over $2,800 for the non-profit organization Colin's Hope, an organization that works to educate the
community on drowning prevention.
g) The Trophy Club Tritons competing in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation's (T.A.A.F.) State Games of Texas. With
3 relays and 90 individual events, the Trophy Club Tritons will complete at the state level on the weekend of July
29.
h) Participation in the North Texas Guard Games. Staff from the Trophy Club Community Pool and Splash Pad attended
the T.A.A.F North Texas Guard Games to further their commitment and knowledge in saving lives and the
prevention of drowning.
i) Seasonal Staffing. The Town is projected to complete this year's summer programming without any delays or
cancellations due to lack of staffing.
j) Phase II of the ongoing Capital Improvement Project at the Community Pool and Splash Pad. Town Staff has
provided the engineer with direction to relocate the proposed slide tower and party rooms to retain the existing
wading pool and additional infrastructure.

4. Discuss and take appropriate action regarding the approval of the Parks and Recreation Board meeting
minutes dated April 17, 2023.
Board member Bailey motioned to approve the Parks and Recreation Board meeting minutes dated April 17, 2023. Board
member Furguson seconded the motion. Chairperson Murray called for a vote. The motion passes unanimously.
S. Take appropriate action to appoint a Vice Chairperson.
Board member Shrien motioned to appoint Board member Bailey as Vice Chairperson. Board member Ferguson seconded
the motion. Chairperson Murray called for a vote. The motion passed unanimously.
6. Future agenda items from the Parks and Recreation Board.
Items noted for the next Parks and Recreation Board meeting included:
a) Discuss and take actions regarding the pool.
b) Discuss and take action regarding the pickleball courts.
c) Discuss and take action to create a subcommittee for Trophy Club Park.
ADJOURN
