Minutes Parks 06/18/2013 MINUTES OF A REGULAR PARKS & RECREATION BOARD MEETING FOR THE TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB LOCATION: 100 MUNICIPAL DRIVE, TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS TUESDAY, June 18, 2013 7:00 P.M. STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF DENTON § The Parks & Recreation Board of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas, met in a Regular Session on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held within the boundaries of the Town and was open to the public. PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT Larry Lentzner Chairman arrived at 7:40 David Abdulky Vice Chairman Glenn Hurst Secretary Jim Hanna Board Member Louis Hocker Board Member Hayley Little Board Member Chris McCollister Board Member arrived at 7:08 Tom Mills Board Member Dean Murray Board Member arrived at 7:13 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT Stacey Everett Board Member Kathy Trotter Board Member STAFF AND GUEST(S) PRESENT Clint Schroeder Council Liaison Adam Adams Parks & Recreation Director Bill Rose Council Member Jacob Lohse Parks & Recreation Call to order and announce a quorum. Chairman Lentzner called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. noting a quorum was present. REGULAR SESSION Citizen Presentations: 1. Discuss and take appropriate action on the approval of the May 14, 2013 Board minutes. Board Member Hanna made a motion to approve the May 14, 2013 Board minutes. Board Member Hocker seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 2. Staff/Board update concerning July 4th Celebration; discussion of same. Jacob Lohse and Board Member Hurst gave update and status regarding event layout, volunteers, vendors, entertainment, Patriot 5K and Fun Run, and Parade of Patriots. Board Member Little and Lentzner will judge the parade. 3. Staff update on the following items; discussion of same: a. Trophy Club Park Disc golf hole #1 has been redone. The goal is to have the first cement pad installed; cost is being researched. b. Trails Board Member Murray would like to see signage at the trail crossings. Board Member Mills covered spending of park bond funds and vandalism. Lively discussion of the need for individual maps and more “you are here” signage for the trails in case someone gets lost. c. Independence Park Board Member Murray said there is a hole in the netting at Independence East. Board Member Abdulky brought up the idea of having food trucks at baseball tournaments, and inquired about tarps for the pitching mounds. Tournaments are going well. Director Adams will report the TDLR inspections at the next meeting. d. Harmony Park Director Adams said the entrance will be cleared, drainage on the back side, and bleachers are good. e. Freedom Dog Park Need to mow next week; it has been delayed due to rain. Watch out for snakes. Councilman Schroeder mentioned dogfriendly.com. f. Community Pool 656 memberships sold so far this summer. 10 a.m. spray pad slot is prime time! g. Linear Park North Watch out for snakes, specifically copperheads. Submitting plans next week for bridge connecting to BNHS. Director Adams will provide an update at the July board meeting. 4. Discuss and take appropriate action concerning the allocation of 2008 Park Bond funds. Kraftsman quote for shade structure is $19,333.00. 60’ x 30’ x9’ dome hip shade. Additional park bond items for consideration: i. Storage container for football equipment (7-9k) ii. Portable movie theater and sound system (18-20k) iii. Canopy system to cover NEOS and swings (20k) iv. Amenities for trail system/water fountain (10-20k) v. Disc golf improvements (8-10k) vi. Collaborative purchase of VAN (20k) 5. Discuss and provide input concerning the possibility of the Parks and Recreation Board assuming the additional duties associated with the Keep Texas Beautiful Program. Board Member Hanna suggested keeping this committee as part of the Parks and Recreation Board. Director Adams said the Board could also attend the committee meetings. Includes trash and litter pick up, solar trash/recycle cans, etc. See New Board Member Packet for more details. Check out www.recreation.gov for information on camp sites. Adjourn Board Member Hanna made a motion to dismiss the meeting at 9:15 p.m. Board Member Abdulky seconded the motion.
