REGULAR SESSION
Citizen Presentations:
1. Discuss and take appropriate action on the approval of the February 21, 2017
minutes.
Board Member Davis made a motion to approve the February 21, 2017 minutes. Board
Member Gibson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
2. Discuss and provide recommendation to Town Council regarding a group user
policy for the Community Pool.
Recreation Superintendent Jacob Lohse created the group policy for the Community
Pool. The group policy is intended to free up the mornings at the pool. Board Chair
Nimphius suggested for staff to reach out to the Trophy Club camps and let them know
about the policy so there no mix ups once summer hits. Board Member Farrell
suggested that staff be proactive by having the cashiers inform residents of the new
change when they come to the pool. Director Adam Adams stated he will let the Board
know when it moves to Council and what the results were. It will most likely be put on the
May 2nd Town Council Agenda.
3. Discuss and provide direction concerning the uniformity of various amenities
within the Park system.
Director Adams stated that the direction request was from a Council Member. They
would like there to be a uniformed color scheme throughout all Town parks. This
includes the shade structures, tables, and bench colors. At the moment, they all vary in
colors. Both Council and Park Board members agree that everything needs to look more
cohesive. Board Member Farrell suggested that the park amenities and park signage
should tie into the same concept and town as a whole. Although the sign color was
decided to be green, members ended up agreeing the "Bobcat Blue" is the best way to
go for the shade structures. The decision of having all poles be black was also made.
4. Staff/Board update on the following:
A. Harmony Park
Pickleball League begins April 22nd. New parking lot should open in May.
Basketball court will be resurfaced soon. Bids were placed by five vendors.
B. Independence Park
Parking lot should be completed in May. On November 11th we will have the
Veteran's Day Ceremony at the memorial. All bricks are almost in and should be
completed in a couple of weeks. Scoreboards have been put up at Independence
West. .
C. Community Pool
All capital projects are done for the year. All hiring for lifeguards and cashiers has
been completed.
D. Back to Nature
It was the biggest crowd we have had thus far at this particular event. Our
attendance was four times larger than previous events. It was a huge success.
In-N-Out donated 830 meals. People enjoyed the coffee mugs and water bottles
the department gave out as promotional items.
E. Easter Eggstravaganza
An estimated 500 people attended and we had 11,000 eggs. Deemed a
successful event.
F. Community Challenge
The Town of Trophy Club received second place in the challenge. Board Chair
Nimphius deemed it a success due to the whole community getting together and
competing in the challenge. The Town was invited to the It's Time Texas health
summit in July or August. Nimphius suggested that next year, we take place in a
similar challenge that is done just within the Town.
G. Kite Fest
Kite Fest is taking place on Saturday, April 29 at Harmony Park. There will be a
trackless train, public kite flying area, spin art, face painting, and a zipline. Dallas
KiteFliers Organization will also be there flying multiple large kites for attendee's
to enjoy.
