A PROCLAMATION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY
CLUB, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING THE WEEK OF MAY 11 — 17, 2014 AS
POLICE WEEK IN TROPHY CLUB IN CONJUNCTION WITH NATIONAL
POLICE WEEK AND MAY 15, 2014 AS NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS
MEMORIAL DAY IN TROPHY CLUB.
WHEREAS, The Congress and President of the United States have designated May 11
— 17, 2014 as National Police week to honor the service and sacrifice of those law
enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting our communities and
safeguarding our democracy; and
WHEREAS, are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in
communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the law
enforcement agency of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas who play an essential role in
safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas; and
WHEREAS, nearly 60,000 assaults against law enforcement officers are reported each
year, resulting in approximately 16,000 injuries;
WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, almost 20,000 law enforcement
officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and been killed in the line of duty,
WHEREAS, the names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of
the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, new names of fallen heroes are being added to the National Law
Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring, including 100 officers killed in 2013 and 186
officers killed in previous years;
WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty will be
honored during the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's 26`" Annual
Candlelight Vigil, on the evening of May 13, 2014;
WHEREAS, the Candlelight Vigil is part of National Police Week, which takes place this
year on May 11-17;
WHEREAS, May 15, 2014 is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of
all fallen officers and their families and U.S. flags should be flown at half staff;
WHEREAS, the members of the law enforcement agency of Town of Trophy Club,
Texas unceasingly provide a vital public service;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MAYOR CONNIE WHITE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
and call upon all citizens of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas and upon all patriotic, civic and
educational organizations to observe the week of May 11 — 17, 2014 as NATIONAL POLICE
WEEK in the Town of Trophy Club, and publicly salutes the service of law enforcement officers
in our community and in communities across the nation.
